How to replace your Broken or Cracked iPhone Screen

Here's a guide on how to JAILBREAK your iPhone iOS 4.2.1:

This guide will show you how to replace your iPhone screen.
Before you proceed I suggest you backup any or all information currently stored on your iPhone.

Tools Required:
-Replacement Glass. I found a good quality replacement screen with digitizer here for cheap. They also carry replacement LCD screens and other iPhone replacement/reparation tools.
-#00 Phillips screwdriver
-Razor blade, or wedging/scraping tool
-Q-tips and rubbing alcohol
-Hair dryer or heat gun
-Scissors and double-sided tape or superglue
-Optional: Tweezers/small suction cup

Step 1: At the bottom of your iPhone there are 2 screws on either side of the USB connector. Use the #00 Phillips screwdriver to remove those screws. Don't worry about removing the SIM card.

Step 2: Using the wedgescraping tool, or razor blade (works best), split the metal from the rubber around the iPhone and lift the screen. Be careful not to fully detach the screen as it is still connected to the iPhone!

Optional: Use the suction cup, if purchased, and place the suction cup above the home button and gently pull up.

Step 3: Search for flaps on the top right, holding the screen and phone together. There should be labels 1 and 2 on a bright circular orange sticker on the flaps. Lift these two flaps with your wedge tool.

Step 4: Search for a third sticker under the #2 flap. In order to release the #3 connection, you must life the black "clamp." Once the clamp is lifted the screen will be free from the iPhone, simply remove it.

Step 5: With the #00 phillips screwdriver remove 6 more screws. There are 5 screws on the side rails (3 on the side with flaps and 2 on the other side). The last screw is on the top right. Don't worry about the screw placement as they are all the same. Some screws may have black tape over them, simply remove the black tape, as it is unnecessary.

Step 6: Separate the LCD screen from the glass. Put your wedge between the rails and wedge the inner piece out. The LCD needs to slide down towards the Home button to avoid the top flanges. The metal does not deform, so don't be afraid to apply pressure.

Step 7: Remove any broken glass or shards from the metal frame. Using the hair dryer or heat gun is recommended in removing the pieces of glass. Also use the Q-tips and rubbing alcohol to remove any adhesive. Careful not to bend the metal while applying heat as the heat causes it to easily deform!

Step 8: Prepare the new glass screen. If using double sided tape, be sure to cut out the correct size. If using superglue, be sure you do not apply it near the home button. Only apply your choice of adhesive to the black plastic on the bottom or top. Stay away from the middle. You wouldn't want to glue the home button or listening piece on the top. Let the adhesive set. If using double sided tape, use tweezers to shape it, avoid getting oils on the tape from your fingers. Be sure to remove the plastic cover, if any, on the new glass.

Step 9: Reassemble the screen/LCD. Put the LCD screen and glass back together. The screen can fit one of two ways, in which only one is correct. On one side, the rail is much longer. It may be easier to slide the LCD in from the bottom.

Step 10: Reassemble the iPhone. Re-read Steps 5 - 1 and reverse engineer the iPhone. Be sure to take your time when reassembling flaps #1 to #3.
